What's the best time to visit Greece?

During the months of (May- October), there are large crowds of tourists throughout Greece. The Peak season is summer, with the most popular months being July and August. This is when you'll find Athens packed with tourists, and prices sky-high. I found the best time to visit is in the late spring (May) and fall (Sept–Oct). Although you'll find many other tourists traveling during these times, it's far less than the peak summer months. Also, the weather is incredible in May and Sept - October.

Here are some considerations for your trip to Greece based on the different seasons:

  1. Summer (June to August):
    • Weather: This is the peak tourist season with hot and dry weather. Average temperatures range from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F).
    • Activities: Summer is perfect for beach activities, water sports, and exploring the islands. Many festivals and cultural events also take place during this time.
  2. Spring (March to May):
    • Weather: The weather is pleasantly warm, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).
    • Activities: Spring is a great time for sightseeing, hiking, and exploring historical sites. The landscape is lush and blooming.
  3. Fall (September to November):
    • Weather: Temperatures start to cool down, ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).
    • Activities: Fall offers comfortable weather for outdoor activities. It's a good time for hiking, wine tours, and experiencing local festivals.
  4. Winter (December to February):
    • Weather: Winter is the off-peak season with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F).
    • Activities: While the islands may be quieter, Athens and other mainland cities still have plenty to offer in terms of cultural experiences. This is also a good time for winter sports in mountainous regions.

Keep in mind that specific destinations in Greece may have slightly different weather patterns and seasonal activities, so it's a good idea to check the weather and local events for the specific places you plan to visit.

Also, consider that popular tourist destinations can be crowded during the summer months, so if you prefer a more relaxed experience, you might want to opt for spring or fall.
