
To create a list like this is a most subjective affair. No doubt about it, each one listed below could probably qualify as an “institution” of art, and quite possibly even be considered “bastions” of art. With the exception of the Van Gogh museum and maybe the Tate Modern, each represents a collection of principally classic works of art predating the impressionist movement of the mid 1800’s. Hopefully, you get to visit them all.
