Paris’ most iconic landmark, the Eiffel Tower, is one of those places that bucket list dreams are made of. Built in the 19th century as the entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair, the original tower was widely criticized by locals for its “gaudy” design before becoming one of the most well-known cultural icons in the world.
There are a variety of ways to experience the Eiffel Tower: travelers can walk near the grounds for free, or pay a fee to visit the upper platform 276 meters (906 feet) in the sky (it’s the highest observation deck in the European Union!). Foodies can dine in one of two restaurants on the tower: Le 58 Tour Eiffel on the first level, or Le Jules Verne on the second level. Le Jules Verne is the more gourmet restaurant of the two, as it has one Michelin star and is managed by three star chefs. Travelers who simply want to toast la belle vie can also order a drink at the champagne bar at the top of the tower. Other nearby attractions include Champs-Elysées, the beautiful Trocadéro gardens, and the Musée d’Art Moderne.
