If you’re traveling to Florence, don’t forget the other “major” museum: the Galleria dell’Accademia! Just a quick 15-minute walk away from the Uffizi museum, Accademia is another art museum that specializes in local artists from Florence as well as works from the years 1300–1600, which are also known as the Trecento and the Late Renaissance. Popular works at the Accademia include the statue of David by Michelangelo, Coronation of the Virgin, by Jacopo di Cione, and the Tree of Life by Pacino di Buonaguida.
In 2001 the museum expanded to include the “Museo degli strumenti musicali,’ which is a collection of musical instruments made by Stradivarius, Niccolò Amati, and Bartolomeo Cristofori.
If you’re not on a guided tour, we recommend beginning from the top floor and working your way to the bottom to avoid the crowds. Likewise, the museum has free entrance for everyone on the first Sunday of every month.
